Race Information | Swimmers shall be seeded according to age groups from the youngest to the oldest. Swimmers may be selected by gender; they won’t be any mixt series. The slowest entered swimmers of each age group may comprise and be seeded in special heat(s). By recommendation of the FINA Masters Commission and/or nominated Safety Officer this order may be changed. Race organizers, in consultation with the referee and subject to advice from FINA Technical Open Water Swimming Committee, are to designate in advance the cut off time for each Masters race. As a rough guide, a time of 30 minutes per kilometre may apply. It shall be compulsory for all swimmers to wear highly visible colored numbered swim caps (provided by the Organizing Committee). Transponders will be used during the competition. If the number of entries is more than 1000 the competition may be held on two days. |
Course Length | Open Water race is a 3 km event. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to reduce the length of the swim should adverse weather conditions prevail. |
Competition Venue | The competition will take place in the Olympic rowing basin on Île Notre-Dame at Parc Jean-Drapeau. Water temperature varies between 24°C to 26°C or 75.2°F to 78.8°F. |
Time Limits | Swimmers who cannot complete the 3 km distance in 90 minutes (1 ½ hours) are advised not to enter. Swimmers still on the course after this time will be stopped and their progress marked. |
Medals | 1st to 6th place in each age group. |
Training | A one hour training opportunities will be available in the 50 meter pools daily after the conclusion of swimming competition from Sunday, August 3rd to Saturday, August 9th 2014. Training will also be available on part of the course on Saturday, August 9th 2014 between 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the island Notre-Dame basin |

Technical Meeting | ***UPDATED*** Friday, August 8th 2014 at 5:00 PM at Parc Jean-Drapeau Aquatic Complex, it is mandatory for all entered swimmers. |
Transport | Shuttle bus from the Métro station at Ste-Hélène Island will be available. Swimmers can walk directly to the venue. It’s about 15 minutes away from the Métro station. |
Marshalling area | All athletes must report to the Marshalling area, one hour before their starting time at the island Notre-Dame basin. At the Call Room, all competitors shall be 20 minutes before their allotted wave. A map showing the course will be clearly visible in this area for all the swimmers. Athletes will be called with a microphone system or megaphone, starting with the first wave. |
